Why Mornings Are Magic
(and how to benefit from them)

Each morning we are presented with new opportunity. From the first moment we wake, our system is completely reset. Slowly we ease into a waking state, and in that moment, our day begins. Many, many songs have been written about the golden opportunity that is a brand new day. This is cliché for a reason, folks! Renewal is an incredible gift.

Here is another secret: mornings are a rich and fertile land where many things can happen. Do not let this golden time escape you. Here are 5 things you can do to make sure you fully receive the magic that mornings have to offer:

1. Wake up

This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s more complicated than we think. There is a difference between waking up at 10 am and 8 am, or 9 am instead of 11 am. Those two hours are worlds away when it comes to morning magic. Some people (myself not included), even choose to wake up at the wee hours of dawn…or 6, or 7, so that they can truly, truly drink in the purity and peace (and potential productivity) that is only found in the early morning hours. Decide what time you want to wake up in the morning and begin shifting your daily routine so that it can happen.

2. Have a ritual

A morning ritual will make you look forward to waking early, and it will also give you and your body the joy of receiving gifts each day. Morning rituals can include tea, yoga, stretching, music, dancing naked in the living room, an essential oil bath, journaling, prayer, and so on. Create a ritual that is custom-designed to nourish your body and spirit.

3. Be grateful

Awaken each morning and remind yourself of some things you are grateful for. What lies ahead in the day that you are excited about? By providing this positive boost in the morning, we can drastically alter our day on a cellular level.  Feel free to state your gratitude out loud or write it down in your journal. Words are powerful.

4. Eat well

Nourish yourself with whatever breakfast feels good to your body. Some people say high-protein, some people say juice it up, some people say lemon water, and so on. I say experiment with what breakfast makes you feel the most excited to begin your day, and go with that.

5. Begin your practice

This is the most wonderful thing about morning. I truly feel that the hours move more slowly in the early morning. They stretch out, languid and light, allowing us to get more done, to birth new ideas, to move our fingertips and feet in the direction of creative production. What is it that is important to you? What are you creating? What are you trying to create? Use these morning hours to focus on the projects that fuel the fire of your life and livelihood.
